While looking at the back side of the buckle: hold just the shackle in your left hand, with the thumb slot on the top side.
Use the thumb of your right hand to tip the top half (knife) away from the bottom half (holster).
Tip away firmly, in order to release the top half of the knife from the pull of the strong magnet.
Now simply fold the blade out until it locks in place.
Hold the knife blade facing upward with your left hand.
Place the flat side of the sharpener at a 20 degree angle against the bottom end of the blade edge.
Tilt the sharpener forward toward it's leading edge . Stroke the full length of the blade's edge, past the tip.
Repeat until the blade is smooth and knick free.
To finish, make one stroke along the back side edge of the blade to remove any burs.
